PENTAGON STUNNED: CHINA SENDING 5,000 TROOPS TO SYRIA

It started with the Arab Spring, Obama's foreign policy to bring the Muslim Brotherhood democratically to power. The Russians are now bombing the West's 'moderate' allies in Syria, as Iran's influence is expanding. A new geopolitical paradigm is in the making.

China are to send 5,000 of its most elite military forces to Syria.

UPDATE: The Kremlin have announced that China are to send 5,000 of its most elite military forces into the Levant War Zone to help Russia in the fight against ISIS, which has left the Obama administration and the Pentagon “horrified”. The “Siberian Tiger” Special Forces and “Night Tiger” Special Forces Units were given authorization to be deployed by China’s People’s Congress (NPC) on Sunday, after China passed its first anti-terrorism law allowing their army to take part in anti-terror missions abroad. Whatdoesitmean.com reports:
Most critical to China in entering this war, this report continues, is the “grave” national security threat it faces from both the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/Daesh) and Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT)—and as, perhaps, best described by the noted award winning American military-intelligence journalist Seymour M. Hersh who in his latest article warned of this threat by stating:
“China, an ally of [Syrian leader] Assad has committed more than $30 billion to postwar reconstruction in Syria. China, too, is worried about the Islamic State. China regards the Syrian crisis from three perspectives: international law and legitimacy; global strategic positioning; and the activities of jihadist Uighurs, from Xinjiang province in China’s far west.

RUSSIA STRIKING TURKO-IS OIL SMUGGLING EMPIRE

The Pentagon, refusing to transfer the data on terrorist targets in Syria to the Russian military, continues to fight against the Islamic State terrorist group “in word only”, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Monday. He thus commented on a recent statement by the Pentagon spokesperson Michelle Baldanza who confirmed that the US military did not intend to share with Moscow the information on IS targets until Russia changes its policy towards Syrian President Bashar Assad. (...) On December 25, Sergey Rudskoy told journalists that Russian intelligence found almost 12,000 tank/delivery trucks on the Turkish-Iraqi border near Zakho, where the ‘eastern’ oil smuggling route used by the Islamic State terrorist group runs. “As of the time the imagery was shot, there were 11,775 tank and delivery trucks on both sides of the Turkish-Iraqi border in the vicinity of Zakho, with 4,530 of them in Turkey and 7,250 in Iraq,” he added. “It is worth mentioning that oil extracted both in Iraq and in Syria is smuggled via the checkpoint there,” he added. The Defense Ministry had said previously that the Russia-banned Islamic State’s eastern oil smuggling route led from the oilfields in Syria’s northeast and Iraq’s northwest to Turkey via the border towns of Kara Chokh, Cham Khanik, Tavan and Zakho. Since the beginning of the operation in Syria, Russian aircraft have taken out around 2,000 tank trucks operated by the militants. (...) The Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement in mid-November that it would focus its strikes on the oil production, storage, refining and transportation facilities controlled by Islamic State militants. MUSLIMS CONDEMN CAMERON'S U-TURN ON MIDDLE EAST

Above article is written from a pro Islam perspective and makes plain that the Western foreign policy called the Arab Spring, meant to bring the Muslim Brotherhood to power, was no figment of the imagination of the critics, but fact. David Cameron was not alone. The policy originated in the Obama administration and was supported by Britain, France and the broader EU. Under the ruse of "democracy" the public also jumped on board. The policy almost succeeded in Egypt and failed miserably in the rest the Middle East. It is no exaggeration to state that the present migration refugee crisis is the result of this policy. The West is slowly acknowledging its stupid mistake. But open-borders-for-refugees is still presented as a moral imperative. And given the failed policy, perhaps it is.

"OBAMA IS A TRAITOR"

Egypt TV Host: Obama is a TRAITOR!

UPDATE: Who can blame a West Point instructor, a man of honor who has served his nation faithfully, for suggesting in a law review article that the military should overthrow the treasonous Obama, and put him where he belongs: In Leavenworth, awaiting a trial for treason, where if convicted, he can pick between the gallows or a firing squad? It’s not like there isn’t support for the idea among every day Americans either. In a recent poll, 1/3 of Americans Said They Would Support Military Coup of the Obama Administration. That doesn’t even include the millions who have no idea the extent of the President’s treachery because the mainstream media is in lock step with him, and constantly provides him with cover. If the American people knew that a Top Obama Appointee (Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency), Said “The President Knowingly and Willingly Armed ISIS,” how many more would agree? What if they knew a Four Star Admiral with intimate details of Benghazi accused Obama of Treason, Colluding With the Enemy, and Providing the Enemy with Stinger Missiles? Then there’s also a Lieutenant General who has accused Obama of Treason saying he’s allowed the Muslim Brotherhood to infect every level of government, and then what if the American people heard what a former CIA Director, and a former Assistant Director of the FBI had to say about Obama? I bet that 1/3 of Americans would be closer to 2/3 of Americans. Why? Those are some very credible sources who have come forward but conveniently been covered up by Obama’s Crime Inc., and the media. It’s not just domestically that people want Obama tried for treason. In the first video below, and Egyptian reporter goes bonkers:
“We’ve said to them a million times, and we are still saying… Obama the liar, the ally of the terrorists, I call him a liar. He’s a liar. He is the ally of the terrorists, and this Obama deserves to stand trial!” Watch the video to see what he says about the American people for falling for Obama’s nonsense… (Source)

IRAQ TURNING TO RUSSIA FOR SECURITY

Iraq has requested the UN and NATO to intervene regarding the troops that Turkey is refusing to withdraw. Yesterday's curious report about German and Saudi troops has been partly clarified, as far as the Germans are concerned. This is a mission for months in the works, to train and arm the Kurdish Peshmerga. About the Saudi's were still in the dark, but considering the developments in Iraq this would be no surprise. Dr Partizan is also reporting the story. We need to keep our eyes on the ball: this is Iran versus the Gulf Arabs. In the meanwhile Iraq is getting more fluent in that respect.
(...) Tehran wields considerable influence both within the Iraqi military and in political circles in Baghdad. When Ash Carter announced that the US was set to send an “expeditionary targeting force” to the country to assist in raids on Islamic State targets, PM Haider al-Abadi flatly rejected the proposal, saying that “Iraq does not need foreign ground combat forces on Iraqi land." (...) Meanwhile, Tehran’s Shiite militias threatened to attack any US soldiers operating on Iraqi soil. “We will chase and fight any American force deployed in Iraq. Any such American force will become a primary target for our group. We fought them before and we are ready to resume fighting,” a spokesman for Kata'ib Hezbollah said. Similarly, influential Shiite lawmakers like the infamous Hakim al-Zamili have called on Abadi to seek direct military intervention from Moscow to expel foreign forces from the country. Now, in the latest example of just how tenuous Washington’s grip on the region has become, the Iraqi parliament's Security and Defense Committee is calling for the review and cancellation of Baghdad’s security agreement with the US. (...)  Who will fill the void you ask? You guessed it: "Soon, a meeting [of the committee] with Prime Minister Haider Abadi will be held, at which we will propose cooperating with Russia in carrying out airstrikes against IS and in the fight against terrorism in Iraq," (...) Once the Russians and Iranians have retaken Aleppo (which admittedly is taking a while), they can push east towards Raqqa and from there, move straight across the border, effectively pinching ISIS between an advance from the west and Iran’s Shiite militias already operating in Iraq. Of course that will entail some measure of cooperation with the US, France, Britain, and, once in Iraq, the Peshmerga. It is at that point that Washington’s resolve when it comes to preserving whatever charade is being perpetrated in Raqqa will be put to the ultimate test. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see how the US responds to a move by Baghdad to nullify the security agreement. Washington knows it can land troops in Iraq by simply going through Erbil which is precisely what Turkey did last Friday. (...) (Source)

TROOP BUILD UP IN IRAQ CONTINUES

This sensational story is reported by The Next News, a Libertarian video outlet on YT (channel) that may, or may not be credible. Given the mess in the region on second guess it's perhaps not as conspiratorial as thought on the surface.
Germany is to deploy 1,200 military personnel to support international air strikes against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isil) under plans approved by Angela Merkel’s cabinet on Tuesday. German Tornado fighters will undertake reconnaissance flights for French air strikes, while a German naval frigate will provide protection for the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, which is already in the region. The German personnel are not expect to take part directly in combat missions, but are being deployed to man the frigate and provide support for the reconnaissance flights. The deployment still has to be approved by parliament and is set to be put to a vote on Wednesday. “The German contribution serves the fight against terrorism under the auspices of the alliance against Isil, and is aimed at supporting in particular France, Iraq and the international alliance in its fight against Isil,” the official government reads, according to copy leaked to reporters. “We are doing what is militarily necessary, what we can do best, and what we can justify politically,” Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the foreign minister, told Bild newspaper.(Source)
In the meantime there's this on the matter of the Turkish troops that Iraq wants withdrawn:

IRAQ GIVES TURKEY ULTIMATUM FOR TROOP WITHDRAWAL

Despite accusations that Turkey is actively supporting IS, Iran is offering to mediate in the rift between Russia and Turkey after the downing of the Russian fighter. Syria and Iraq are calling Turkey out for deploying hundreds of troops for the protection of a training force in northern Iraq near Mosul, allegedly to train the Hashid Watani (national mobilization), a force made up of mainly Sunni Arab former Iraqi police and volunteers from Mosul, which ISIS militants seized in June 2014. RUSSIA EXPOSING TURKISH IS OIL TRAFFICKING

Tweets by @mod_russia relaying declaration by Russian defense officials. The coalition must have been well aware this has been going on and covered it up.

ANTONOV: International terrorism is the world’s biggest threat today. It is not an imaginary threat. It is very real. Notorious Islamic State ISIS is the absolute leader of international terrorism. There are ways to combat the monster of international terrorism. Russian Air Force evidently demonstrated that over two months. Our objective is to shut down sources of financing of terrorism for the victory over ISIS. Terrorism without money is a beast without its fangs. Terrorists make about $2 billion a year on illegal oil trade & spend it for equipping militants all over the world. Turkey is the main destination for the oil stolen from its legitimate owners, which are Syria and Iraq. According to new data, the Turkish top political leadership is involved in illegal oil business—President Erdogan and his family. There is a team in the region, composed of extremists and the Turkish elites conspiring to steal oil from their neighbors. Oil is transported to Turkey in industrial quantities along the “rolling pipelines” made up of thousands of tanker trucks. (Source)

GERMANY, UK DEBATE I.S. AS COALITION CRUMBLES

The major Arab powers once deemed essential to the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have largely pulled back from the U.S.-led military campaign, undercutting the Obama administration’s claims about the depth and reach of the coalition it has built with allies in the region. The Obama administration consistently touts the “65-nation coalition” it has assembled to fight the group also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh — but critics say that fewer than a dozen nations today are contributing anything significant to the campaign. And behind closed doors, administration and military officials admit that air support from such key Arab allies as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) — something the White House once touted as an unprecedented and essential part of the coalition — has all but evaporated. (...) J. Matthew McInnis, a Mideast-focused fellow with the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, (...) said that there is no question the Saudis rank the threat posed by Iran — whether it be in Yemen, Iraq, Syria or elsewhere — above that of Islamic State, which he said is viewed by Riyadh as “a secondary problem.” “They still recognize ISIS as a problem,” he added. “But since the Iran nuclear deal, they’re really more focused on the Iran threat and, first and foremost for them, that’s in Yemen, where they saw Iran trying to get a foothold.”

UK, France Preparing To Bomb Syria

It's good news that finally something is being done about ISIS. These Nihiists are shaking the conscience of humanity. But Cameron, and Hollande in a lesser extent, is still raising the rhetoric against Assad. It's a logic that beggars belief! It's particularly awkward (and not without a little risk) now that Russia's stepping up its presence in Syria.

Australia Joining Coalition in Syria Against ISIS?

It looks like finally the powers are coming together to defeat ISIS and other terrorist groups like it. It's about time. It seems that General Petraeus hasn't learnt a thing about consorting with the devil. What sensationally blew back in Afghanistan and Anbar, he now proposes to do against IS. The words of Einstein come to mind: a cluster fuck can't be resolved by the minds that created it.

(...) Petraeus (...) the former CIA director, who oversaw the 2007 “surge” in Iraq that helped degrade an earlier incarnation of Isis, repeated his call for the US to consider arming “reconcilable” fighters in Syria - that is, those who had joined Jabhat al-Nusra and other extremist groups out of “opportunism or convenience”, rather than ideological zeal. He likened the strategy to the “Sunni Awakening”, where dozens of Iraqi tribes and militia were given financial and material support to drive out al-Qaida in Iraq, which eventually regrouped and emerged last year as Islamic State. “We needed to strip away some of these fighters, some of these sheikhs and the tribes that were supporting the insurgents,” Petraeus said Syria was different, but it was nonetheless “an option that has some prospects for achievement”, he said.

A decision on whether Australian fighter jets will strike Islamic State targets in Syria will be made next week, Tony Abbott has said. The federal government is considering a request from US president Barack Obama to join airstrikes in Syria. But the prime minister told Radio 2GB that he would await the return of the defence minister, Kevin Andrews, from government business in India on Friday before making a decision next week. He said the government was “utterly committed” to fighting Isis and said the group was worse than the Nazis.  “The Nazis did terrible evil but they had sufficient sense of shame to try and hide it. These people boast about their evil. This is the extraordinary thing.” (Source)

The 'Arab Spring' Was An Islamist Hoax

Assad and Obama have a temporary understanding to combat IS, but a long term alignment goes against Obama's commitment to the Muslim Brotherhood.

A Syrian tweep from Australia describes in a few words what was so fake in the 'Syrian Revolution', the alleged 'spontaneous' revolt in the disastrous hoax called the Arab Spring.

French Talks In Damascus For Syria U Turn

The contacts between the US (and the UK) are confirmed in this article that describes the extraordinary U-turn Western Governments have to make, in order to walk back a fatal and fundamental policy mistake: siding with so called Islamist 'democrats' against a secular dictator, one in a long line of ousted Middle Eastern tyrants that have been holding the ship of state against evil, Muslim Brotherhood aligned gangs. It says everything you need to know about the idiots currently in charge of world politics. Now it's the turn of the French to send a parliamentary delegation to Damascus under the cover of 'private' meetings. Read the entire thing. Very interesting indeed.

Obama and Assad Secretly Team Up Against IS

Washington and Damascus are not coordinating their battle plans against the so-called Islamic State at any official level, but a de facto deal between them is increasingly obvious. The Assad regime is conducting follow-up bombing raids in the wake of sorties by the U.S.-led coalition, and it has launched a land offensive in eastern Syria that is helping the coalition and the Kurds shut down the jihadist supply lines to Mosul in northern Iraq. This evident, if indirect coordination, is feeding Sunni Muslim suspicions in the region that Syrian President Bashar Assad and U.S. President Barack Obama have decided to work together.

The Syrian civil war, now entering its fifth year, has witnessed a dizzying sequence of shifting alliances. Enemies suddenly become friends and allies are deemed foes in a real-life Game of Thrones. So it’s not surprising that Western-backed rebels are uneasy about recent developments. Their suspicions are being stoked by the toned-down anti-Assad rhetoric of Obama officials.

In his State of the Union last month, Obama focused his Syria remarks on the so-called train-and-equip plan to build a proxy force that will target Islamic State militants. And also by Assad himself. In an interview with the BBC, broadcast Tuesday, the Syrian tyrant stated flatly that Washington is sharing information on coalition airstrikes via intermediaries.

Asked specifically why there haven't been any incidents such as mid-air collisions or exchanges of fire between Syrian and coalition warplanes, Assad said there are ongoing communications “through a third party—more than one party—Iraq and other countries.” Assad added: “Sometimes they convey a message, a general message, but there's nothing tactical.” He said there had been no direct cooperation since coalition air strikes began in Syria in September.

But, even if we take this at face value, actions by the Syrian armed forces in parallel with coalition airstrikes are affecting the critical ability of ISIS to move its fighters quickly over the region’s desert terrain and depriving it of the chance to compensate for battlefield setbacks in one theater by switching focus to one side or the other of the Syrian-Iraq border.

“We are seeing coalition warplanes hit targets during the day in Raqqa province and then Syrian warplanes follow-up with more indiscriminate strikes at night,” a commander with the Free Syrian Army told The Daily Beast. “This is not a coincidence—to argue that it is stretches credulity.”

At least as important in the ground war are the clashes under way between pro-Syrian-government militias and Islamic militants in northeast Syria. Those skirmishes are helping Iraqi Kurdish Peshmerga fighters squeeze jihadist supply lines into the northwestern Iraqi city of Mosul.

On the Syrian side of the frontier the fighting is led by a branch of Assad’s military known as the National Defense Forces, or NDF, whose members are drawn largely from Syrian minorities threatened by the savage absolutism that the self-proclaimed caliphate imposes in the name of Sunni Islam.

The NDF has been built up with the support of Assad’s ally Iran and is modeled on Tehran’s own Basij militia. “We are seeing coalition warplanes hit targets during the day in Raqqa province and then Syrian warplanes follow-up with more indiscriminate strikes at night.”

Last month, Kurdish fighters seized a string of villages and a key highway intersection between Mosul and the nearby Iraqi town of Tal Afar. The rollback has continued with Kurdish forces, backed by coalition airpower, making new gains around Mosul and seizing control over three strategic areas near the city, the U.S. Central Command said in a statement on Monday.

“Security Forces from the Kurdish region seized three bridgeheads on the west bank of the Tigris River, north of Mosul in formerly held Daesh [ISIS] areas,” the statement said. The Kurdish play was helped by “four close air support airstrikes to facilitate the maneuver of the Kurdish Security Forces and their successful attack.”

ISIS fighters started to respond last month to the Kurdish gains by probing territory southeast of the long-besieged city of Kobani, which was defended successfully and finally re-taken by Syrian Kurdish fighters.

According to Western officials, ISIS appeared to be massing forces for an offensive on the town of Hasakah, a vital crossroads about halfway between Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq, which was taken by ISIS last summer, and Raqqa in northern Syria, which is the de facto capital of the putative Islamic State.

U.S. warplanes have launched airstrikes near Hasakah in recent weeks and the NDF has stepped up its offensives against the ISIS militants there as well. This sticks in the craw of moderate rebel fighters. It’s not that they want ISIS to succeed, but they see all of this as a grand conspiracy by the wily Assad regime.

They have long insisted that ISIS and al Qaeda affiliate Jabhat al Nusra were encouraged by Assad, who freed jihadist prisoners as the uprising against him began in 2011, knowing that would help him brand the entire opposition as extremist.

According to Michael Weiss and Hassan Hassan, co-authors of a new book, ISIS: Inside the Army of Terror, “Assad wasted little time guaranteeing that extremists dominated the insurgency,” a ploy intended to win Western support for the relatively “moderate” Syrian regime.

The rebels argue that the tactical objectives of Assad and the Islamic State are overlapping: both fuel sectarianism by attacking enemy sects, provoking reprisals and polarization and thus shoring up their own sectarian support.

NATO RULES OUT GROUND TROOPS AGAINST IS

We had better remind ourselves what the warring parties are: ultimately this is a fight between the Gulf Arabs and Iran for the hegemony in the Middle East. IS are the Sunni shock troops. It is therefore proper that NATO removes itself as far as possible from the situation. With Turkey in the defense alliance NATO is stuck with an irresponsible partner, that is no longer sharing the core value of Liberty. Turkey must be contained. But in the meantime there's this curious development:
An air strike carried out by the US-led coalition in Syria is reported to have targeted regime forces for the first time, killing at least three soldiers and destroying a number of vehicles. The Syrian government said four warplanes bombed its Saega military camp in Deir al-Zor province, describing it as an "act of aggression" by coalition forces. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, 13 more military personnel were wounded in the strike, which it said took place near the town of Ayyash on Sunday evening. But while the Syrian foreign ministry said in a statement that it had written to the UN over the incident, a spokesman for the coalition denied it had carried out any air strikes on the area in question.

HOWEVER DISTASTEFUL, TURKEY IS KEY

The idea that Russia can be part of the coalition against IS, is naive. Russia is working for Assad and Iran. So there is a obvious contradiction. According to David Cameron there are around 70,000 'moderate' Syrians in the armed opposition groups that are opposed to Assad. How could the Russians protect Assad and at the same breath not fight his enemies? Putin, standing side by side with Hollande in Paris stated about the fight against IS: “We (Russia) do not need such cooperation, with anyone, any coalition or country”. Putin was consistent. He understands that for a coalition a common objective is necessary. What will the common objective be? To keep Assad, or to consider him part of the problem? To target the 'moderate'rebels as Putin does, or to focus on IS?

With regard to Turkey, the picture above is worth a thousand words. Erdogan protectively touching Obama's face in an intimate, almost condescending way is revealing the power balance between the two men on a personal level. Both, as Presidents of their countries, are central to shaping foreign policy. If we think of NATO as a military alliance led by the United States, we had better think again. The fact that NATO to date has been doing Turkey's bidding becomes less enigmatic in that light. Knowing that it is Obama's goal to diminish the dominant role of the US on the world stage and that he is leading from behind (in other words, not at all) the situation is becoming more clear than ever.

The moment Obama gave up the US leadership role in the Middle East, regional players like Turkey scrambled to develop their own policies, resulting in a host of contradicting and partial agendas. Erdogan is not going to go away any time soon. The central point now is the coordination between Russia and the PKK. Turkey wants assurances that the PKK will not use any gains as a platform to attack Turkey. Moscow, in an act of revenge of the downing of it jet fighter by Turkey, might see it proper to assist the PKK to do just.  Russia has kept traditionally long and strong relations with the PKK.

Russian interests are contrary to Western interests, including Turkey's. Turkey can either cause substantial problems, or play a constructive role in finding a solution to the conundrum. In order to push Erdogan gently out of his self-claimed role in that region, there must be someone else playing Turkey's role. Currently there is no one.

In order not to exchange a Sunni IS with a Shia IS, only Sunni fighters can defeat IS and preserve the  liberated territories. Both the US and Turkey have presence in the North of Syria. And now, the UK, France and potentially others will send more Special Forces and other military contributions parallel to the US decision to send more troops to train the Syrian Sunnis in the North. NATO countries have to be present in order to foil any Russian strategic plans. If Russia is sincere when it says it wants only to fight terrorism, this will be evident soon.

THE REAL REASON RUSSIA BOMBED IS OIL CONVOY

Following the downing of a Russian fighter jet, the Russians proceeded to bomb the oil infrastructure that is currently under IS control. Russia has alleged Turkey is engaging in illegal oil trade with the Islamic State. The Russian top military have provided proof.

Tweets by @mod_russia relaying declaration by Russian defense officials on Dec. 2. The coalition must have been well aware of this and covered it up. There has been little or so coverage of these statements in the media.

WAR STRATEGY BASED ON ISLAMIC PROPHESY

Tammy Bruce hits the bull's eye when it comes to strategy in the war in Iraq and Syria. Whereas classical, objective thinkers base their decision making on the facts of the reality drawing a moral principle from the result, postmodernists reason from the perceptions of the subjects. In the case of deciding on a strategy for war, men like Obama assess what the enemy thinks and wants, and draw conclusions on that basis. In this case, Islamic prophesy is the deciding factor. Total madness!  This method of decision making is of course fraught with risks and can never lead to moral or even a successful outcome. Tammy Bruce:
After President Obama’s Oval Office statement about the San Bernardino terrorist attack, he was roundly criticized for continuing to push and defend his obviously failed light-touch “no boots on the ground” strategy.  The shocked reaction of, well, everyone, clearly indicated to Mr. Obama that everyone is out of step except him. He decided he would reveal to the great unwashed masses why it is so vital the United States not confront the terrorist caveman army directly: Because it would fulfill Koranic prophecy of a doomsday fight between 'the Romans' and the defenders of Islam and the caliphate. In other words, we are allowing a fantasy of an army of the insane to control American foreign policy. Mr. Obama’s feckless regime used its always trusty messenger, The New York Times, to explain the White House’s Koranic strategy to the unsophisticated (i.e. the American people).
The Times breathlessly reveals to us that ISIS “bases its ideology on prophetic texts stating that Islam will be victorious after an apocalyptic battle to be set off once Western armies come to the region. Should that invasion happen, the Islamic State not only would be able to declare its prophecy fulfilled, but could also turn the occurrence into a new recruiting drive at the very moment the terrorist group appears to be losing volunteers.” The newspaper often used by the White House to distribute public relations narratives, then directly tells us, “It is partly that theory that President Obama referred to in his speech on Sunday …” Now all the bizarre nonsense spewing from Mr. Obama’s henchmen and sycophants makes perfect sense, if you’re being driven by Koranic prophecy, that is.
We’ve been told for over a year now that we can’t confront ISIS directly because … that’s what they want! The singular talking point has been so absurdly pushed, the folks over at the online investigative magazine, Free Beacon, have produced a video titled, “The Islamic State Wants Us To Destroy It,” within which they lampoon a litany of talking heads, politicians and academics moving the White House’s narrative: “Dozens of thought leaders familiar with the terrorist group say that its members yearn for the day that close air support from an A-10 Warthog cuts them in half while coalition soldiers storm Raqqa,” notes the Beacon. “They are begging for U.S. troops on the ground,” former Obama administration official Van Jones said. “That’s what they want.” (...)
All of this becomes somewhat confusing. Mr. Obama, in virtually every speech including those after the massacres in Paris and San Bernardino, made it clear that ISIS is not Islamic. That what the terrorists do has nothing to do with Islam. Yet, in the next breath we are told that our policy in destroying the “nothing to do with Islam” savages is being controlled by Islamic prophecy. Moreover, the racism embedded in this grotesque approach is striking. The Obama administration clearly believes that if you scratch the surface of every Muslim in the world you’ll find a genocidal, child-killing savage fanatic ready to flood the Middle East to join in on the coming prophecy of doom. CENTCOM ANALYSTS TOLD TO "TOE THE LINE"

UPDATE: The scandal involving about 50 intelligence analysts for U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) who were pressured to downplay the effectiveness of the Islamic State while it was a growing threat is at critical mass. The Pentagon's inspector general has in his possession emails and other documents that prove there was pressure to doctor the analyses of the Islamic State in order to minimize the threat and talk up the White House "narrative" that the military was doing a good job in degrading the abilities of the terrorist group. Fox News: Fox News is told by a source close to the CENTCOM analysts that the pressure on them included at least two emails saying they needed to “cut it out” and “toe the line.”

CONFIRMED! OBAMA'S USED ISIS TO DEFEAT ASSAD

Nov 19, 2015 Judicial Watch exposes secret Defense documents that prove the Obama wanted IS to oppose Assad.

It's official! What many had already figured out (watch what they do and connect the dots!) IS is an Obama creation.
Judicial Watch, a watchdog group, gained access to the secret documents and published them recently on the internet. The document, written three years ago, discussed a strategy for dealing with Syrian president Bashar al Assad that would ultimately lead to the disaster we are currently facing from ISIS, the terror group responsible for last week’s bombing of Paris, along with thousands of murders world wide and the Syrian refugee crisis we are now seeing. In many respects the U.S. state department and President Obama’s administration are responsible for the rise of this group due to it’s misguided political meddling – or by deliberate effort – in the Middle East. Bashar Assad’s regime was supported by Russia, China and others in order to maintain control and stability in Syria and the surrounding areas. The U.S. plan was developed to support U.S. allies Saudi Arabia, Qatar and others who wanted to isolate and overthrow Assad, and it gave rise to the deadly Islamic terrorist group, which is an outgrowth of the ultra conservative Wahabbi movement with its roots originally established in Saudi Arabia. So when the Obama administration says they are anxious to defeat or even control ISIS, it is important to remember that this administration’s actions have provided the soil that ISIS needed to grow in the Middle East. BIDEN: 'ALLIES FUNDED AND ARMED IS'

Here's what happens when Joe Biden accidentally veers off-script: the truth comes out! Because that's what tends to happen when you've told so many lies on so many different subjects – you forget what exactly it is you're not supposed to say in public. So candid that the White House actually issued an apology to Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates (i.e. not a retraction, but an apology for revealing their culpability in arming IS). Shooting his mouth off at a Harvard Q&A with students last Thursday, Biden said:
“… our biggest problem is our allies – our allies in the region were our largest problem in Syria. The Turks were great friends – and I have the greatest relationship with Erdogan, which I just spent a lot of time with – the Saudis, the Emiratis, etc. But what were they doing? They were so determined to take down Assad and essentially have a proxy Sunni-Shia war, what did they do? They poured hundreds of millions of dollars and tens, thousands of tons of weapons into anyone who would fight against Assad, except that the people who were being supplied were Al Nusra and Al Qaeda and the extremist elements of jihadis coming from other parts of the world. Now you think I’m exaggerating – take a look… Now we have – the President’s been able to put together a coalition of our Sunni neighbors, because America can’t once again go into a Muslim nation and be seen as the aggressor – it has to be led by Sunnis to go and attack a Sunni organization.”
Scroll down and listen to the White House's own audio tape. Ignored by all Western mainstream media because (1) it's what Putin has been saying all along and (2) well, because Biden wasn't meant to say it. Excellent additional commentary on CIA involvement in weapons transfers from Libya (Benghazi, anyone?) to Syria. (...) (Source) (Original)

OBAMA'S FAKE WAR ON ISLAMIC STATE

The last couple of months we've seen professional analysts and commentators struggling with the question, what the hell is Obama's strategy with the Islamic State, or ISIL as he prefers it. Answers have ranging from "there is no strategy" to outright incompetence. We have been speculating from our own philosophical perspective. But now there is a working hypothesis. (Source)

    FIGHTING TERRORISM OR APPEASING ISLAM?

"This is war", declared the French President Francois Hollande yesterday, after the attacks on Paris in which over 120 people were killed and many more were wounded. The awareness that this is in fact a war, is a new one and a step forward. But how could the West make such a basic mistake? (Source)

Obama’s War Advisors Head For The Exit

Oct 21, 2015 The biggest Iraqi parliamentarian block have sent an official letter to the Iraqi Supreme commander with the request of help from Russian side.

On Sept. 22 Barack Obama’s hand-selected advisor coordinating global efforts to combat the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, retired General John Allen, announced his intention to resign the post. Within a week, Evelyn Farkas, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia, also handed in her resignation. (..) Allen’s resignation also coincided with Russian and Iranian military intervention into the Syrian war, reshaping that conflict from a Middle Eastern competition into a global proxy conflict. Furthermore, Bloomberg reported that Allen unsuccessfully sought to convince the White House earlier in his tenure to insert tactical air control teams on the ground in Iraq to more accurately select targets. “Allen also tried several times to convince the White House to agree to Turkish demands for a civilian protection zone in Syria, to no avail,” that report read. As he prepares to surrender his role, Allen is spending more time worrying about the Russians than ISIS. (...) In testimony before Congress, Allen warned that the crisis Russia precipitated in Syria will only force more refugees to pour into Turkey, Greece, and ultimately into the West, intensifying the political crisis on the continent. Which brings us to Europe.

“We need more high-level attention being paid to the countries that feel directly threatened by Russia,” Farkas told reporters as she, too, heads for the exits. (...)  Farkas said that she unsuccessfully pushed the administration to approve “lethal, defensive assistance to Ukraine, primarily anti-tank weapons.” But lethal aid never came for Ukrainian resistance fighters. When training and material finally began pouring into the country, it was too late to reverse the facts on the ground. Farkas’ assessment of what the future holds for Europe was a bleak one. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried to counter-balance us elsewhere,” she said, even to the point of noting that an emboldened Vladimir Putin might soon feel obliged to “test NATO.” In a final parting shot at the president, Farkas observed that Barack Obama’s reliance on an ever-tightening network of financial sanctions designed compel Putin to change his behavior has failed. “I do think that we need to, unfortunately, do a better job of really understanding what Russia and the Kremlin’s interests are,” she said. “They have, thus far, prioritized their security interests over their economic interests.”

The picture being painted by Obama’s soon-to-be-former advisors is one of a president paralyzed with indecision. He is being increasingly tested by the world’s bad actors and revisionist powers and has little resolve to act early and decisively. That is an impression that was confirmed by Reuters in October. They reported that the president was similarly incapacitated by the People’s Republic of China’s brazen decision to create new islands that would function as naval and air bases in the middle of the contested Spratly Islands late last year. (...)  As the fruits of Barack Obama’s feckless approach to foreign affairs ripen, and the conflicts that he sought to resolve only deteriorate, the president’s advisors are increasingly training their fire on him. In the final year of this administration, that trend is only likely to intensify. If the Obama era is going to be remembered as the period when the seeds of chaos and conflict were sown, surely more creatures of Washington are going to emerge to make sure that they do not take the blame for sowing them. A president who has so perfected the art of throwing others under the bus is about to get the same treatment. (Source)

OBAMA HANDS IRAQ OVER TO RUSSIA, IRAN

The damage Obama has done in the Middle East can't be undone overnight. It's building as we speak. The West is now facing the alliance of Russia, Iran and Syria. Added to the axis is Iraq. All blood and treasure sacrificed for democracy in Iraq has now been effectively in vain.

SYRIAN 'MODERATE' OPPOSITION FORMING NEW COALITION

Oct 11, 2015 World chess champion and political activist Garry Kasparov slammed Obama's destructive foreign policy. It will take years to rebuild relationships.

Today the West's 'moderate' allies have announced a new partnership, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Not against ISIS which in time will dissolve, but against Assad, Russia and Iran. It must be seen in the light of a new geopolitical structure under development. The bipolar Cold War division will be largely reconstituted, with the exception of eastern Europe which is now firmly embedded in NATO. The Middle East, as before, is a battleground. Although, as Yaroslav Trofimov @yarotrof is pointing out in an excellent analysis (tweet), Obama's policies have left such a vacuum in the region, that no one is currently interested in any partnership with the US, including the old allies, Israel, Egypt and the Gulf states.

Obama watched IS grow the size of Texas

In a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, [CIA Director] Brennan revealed not only that Daesh (ISIS) has other attack plans for the U.S., but revealed who exactly is to blame for the terror group’s rise to power and undeniable success. Brennan admitted that under George W. Bush, Daesh only had “700-or-so adherents left,” adding that the group was “decimated” when the president left office in 2008, American Enterprise Institute reports. However, not long after Barack Obama was elected, the terrorist group began to reorganize, grow, and conquer.(...) “[ISIS] can muster between 20,000 and 31,500 fighters across Iraq and Syria,” a 2014 CIA analysis confirmed. “This new total reflects an increase in members because of stronger recruitment since June [2014] following battlefield successes and the declaration of a caliphate, greater battlefield activity, and additional intelligence.” This means that Daesh has grown anywhere between 2,700 and 4,400% during Obama’s presidency (...)

Only a day before 132 Parisians were mercilessly slaughtered by ISIS recruits, Obama confidently purported that ISIS has “been contained.” These statistics show that Obama is solely responsible for Daesh’s continual onslaught, since Bush practically left him only the crumbs to wipe up on his way out. Had Obama simply acted at the first sign of their growth, there would be no Caliphate threatening the Middle East and the West today. (....) (Source)

GIULIANI: "ISIS IS AN OBAMA CREATION"

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on "Hannity" last night that President Obama's disastrous foreign policy is to blame for the rise of ISIS and the deadly terror attacks in Paris.

"This did not have to happen if our policies were different," Giuliani said. "If President Obama had listened to Sen. McCain and Sen. Graham and a whole group of other people, and had set up a no-fly zone in Syria five years ago, if we had gone in and worked with the Syrian legitimate rebels, if we had not taken our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, ISIS never would have emerged." Giuliani explained that ISIS is filling a vacuum, created by the president's "vacuous" foreign policy. "ISIS is an Obama creation."

AL QAEDA IN SYRIA NOW REBRANDED AS 'MODERATE' OPPOSITION

Russian and NATO propaganda are battling it out if and if so, to what extent the Russians are targeting ISIS, or the "relatively moderate opposition" supported by the CIA. How relative that moderation is, is in evidence in an article entitled "Druze Clues" . It's disgusting! An effort is now in the works to rebrand Al Qaeda in Syria -- Nusra -- as a respectable ally. The moral relativism in some circles is now so bad, the authors are actually speaking of a market. (Source) If you're in bed with evil all its nuances become visible.

In the meantime in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia dozens of conservative clerics have called for Arab and Muslim countries to "give all moral, material, political and military" support to what they term a Jihad against Syria's government and its Iranian and Russian backers. Although the clerics do not speak on behalf of the Saudi rulers, their strong sectarian and anti-Christian language reflects a growing anger among many Saudis over Russian and Iranian involvement in Syria.

OBAMA MAY JUST GIVE UP ON SYRIA

Is Obama giving up on America's influence in the Mideast?

Obama is clueless and Hillary, along with a number of Republican Presidential candidates, is on the theme of more "Just War Theory", no fly zone, "humanitarian" corridors, and so on. The Russians have no such qualms and may just turn Syria into another Grozny. The West's contention that the Russians are hardly targeting ISIS, but going full throttle against Assad's opposition, is partly propaganda. Many southern Russians such as Chechens, have joined the ranks of ISIS. After dithering for 4 years and a fake war on ISIS, Syria's Christians have been ethnically cleansed, while the rest has either joined ISIS or fled to Europe and beyond. This mess is squarely on the shoulders of the Obama regime. And there must be some serious panic in Sunni ranks.

THE IMPACT OF RUSSIA'S MIDDLE EAST COUP

Back in June, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Qasem Soleimaini, visited a town north of Latakia on the frontlines of Syria’s protracted civil war. Following that visit, he promised that Tehran and Damascus were set to unveil a new strategy that would “surprise the world.” Just a little over a month later, Soleimani - in violation of a UN travel ban - visited Russia and held meetings with The Kremlin. (...) The General allegedly made another visit to Moscow in September. The timeline here is no coincidence. Iran has long provided covert and overt support to the Assad regime via financial transfers, logistical support from the Quds, and via the involvement of Hezbollah in the Assad government’s fight to regain control of the country. (..) Iran, unable to simply invade Syria in support of Assad (because doing so would obviously be a disaster in terms of preserving the optics around the P5+1 nuclear deal), turned to Moscow (...) Putin looks to have viewed this as the ultimate geopolitical win-win. That is, Russia gets to i) expand its influence in the Middle East in defiance of Washington and its allies, a move that also helps to protect Russian energy interests and preserves the Mediterranean port at Tartus, and ii) support its allies in Tehran and Damascus thus preserving the counterbalance to the US-Saudi-Qatar alliance.

Meanwhile, Iran gets to enjoy the support of the Russian military juggernaut on the way to protecting the delicate regional nexus that is the source of Tehran’s Mid-East influence. It is absolutely critical for Iran to keep Assad in power, as the loss of Syria to the West would effectively cut the supply line between Iran and Hezbollah. The same dynamic is playing out in Iraq. That is, Iran is fighting ISIS via various Shiite militias just as it’s fighting the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen via the Shia Houthis. It is thus extremely significant that Baghdad has agreed to share intelligence with Syria and Russia, as that effectively means the Iran-backed Shiite militias battling for control of Iraq will enjoy the support of the Russian military. What should be obvious here is that this is a coordinated plan. The Kremlin has effectively agreed to bring the might of the Russian air force to bear on Assad’s opponents in Syria and on Sunni militants in Iraq in support of Iranian ground troops and because the US and its allies have failed so miserably in terms of fielding anti-Assad rebels who don't turn out to be extremists, Putin gets to pitch the whole thing as a "war on terror." It would be difficult to design a more elegant power play. If you think that’s far-fetched, consider the following just out from Reuters:
Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria in the last 10 days and will soon join government forces and their Lebanese Hezbollah allies in a major ground offensive backed by Russian air strikes, two Lebanese sources told Reuters. (...)

    OBAMA ANTI ISIS POLICY COLLAPSES

The Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Central Command have revamped the US war plans against the Islamic State, in the face of scandals, resignations and major personnel changes. The overhaul plan is being finalized and will be presented to the President and the National Security Council in the coming days. Last week, Gen. John Allen, President Barack Obama’s special envoy for Iraq and Syria abruptly resigned, accusing the White House of failing to put adequate resources into the battle against ISIL. His departure came at the same time that Gen. Martin Dempsey was completing his term as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and as investigators for the Pentagon’s Inspector General were intensifying their investigation into the allegations by Centcom and DIA analysts, that they were pressured to alter their assessments to paint a more positive picture of progress against ISIL than the reality. The Pentagon reassessment has concluded that the battle against the Islamic State in Iraq is stalled, as the result of a combination of factors.

REPORTS ON ISIS POLITICIZED TO FIT OBAMA NARRATIVE

    Sep. 2, 2015

Pentagon Not Targeting Islamic State Training Camps

The Pentagon refuses to target ISIS Training Camps: destroying terrorists creates terrorists, in the logic of the Obama regime.

The Pentagon has not conducted airstrikes against an estimated 60 Islamic State (IS) training camps that are supplying thousands of fighters each month to the terror group, according to defense and intelligence officials. The camps are spread throughout Islamic State-controlled areas of Iraq and Syria and are off limits in the U.S.-led international bombing campaign because of concerns about collateral damage, said officials familiar with planning and execution of the yearlong bombing campaign. (...) The failure to target the training camps with U.S. and allied airstrikes is raising questions among some defense and intelligence officials about the commitment of President Obama and his senior aides to the current anti-IS strategy of degrading and ultimately destroying the terror group. “If we know the location of these camps, and the president wants to destroy ISIS, why are the camps still functioning?” one official critical of the policy asked. (...) A White House spokesman declined to comment on the failure to bomb the terror camps and referred questions to the Pentagon. Pentagon spokesman Maj. Roger M. Cabiness declined to say why no training camps have been bombed. (...) Disclosure that the IS training camps are effectively off limits to the bombing campaign comes as intelligence officials in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and U.S. Central Command, which is in charge of the conflict, have alleged that senior U.S. officials skewed intelligence reports indicating the U.S. strategy against IS is not working or has been less effective than officials have claimed in public. Obama Policy in the Middle East Backfiring Sensationally

According to former CIA agent Claire Lopez America switched sides in the global war on terror. PlayerPart 2

According to the former CIA agent Claire Lopez the Obama regime changed sides in the war on terror at about the time the CIA annex in Benghazi was overrun on 11 September 2011. (Source) Obama has had contacts with radicals all his life. Bringing the Muslim Brotherhood to power under cover of democracy was the agenda all along, long before Obama was even elected President of the United States. Part of the plan was certainly the withdrawal of the US from the world stage as a super power and the dismantling of the armed forces as the protector of Liberty.

As Lopez is pointing out, the advance of 'democracy' in nations where a large proportion of the population believes in Sharia Law meant the advancement of the powers of political Islam. This is what the postmodern critics of the Bush war in Iraq meant, when they were calling for a non Western-centric form of democracy: it's Islamic tyranny by popular proclamation.

This equivocation explains the Leftist moral agnosticism in the face of the atrocities committed by ISIS. And it explains the now obsolete plans to carve up Syria (and Iraq) in sectarian pieces, with room for Kurds as well as the Caliphate. If morality is (group) subjective and all cultures are equal, why not, if you believe this represents "political settlement"?

Typically, now that the policy is backfiring and is about to explode in their faces, the Obama regime is quick to blame a department that they themselves have been in charge of for seven years!
Officials at United States Central Command are being investigated by the Pentagon’s inspector general for allegedly downplaying the expansion of ISIS by altering intelligence reports. (Source)

Obama supported and armed Syrian rebels, aware of the danger to Iraq

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knew that the US was sending arms from Libya to Syria in 2011. She denied this during public testimony (under oath) in early 2013.

The Obama regime knew full well that weapons were shipped to rebels in Syria from Benghazi in Libya and was warned of the danger these groups were posing for Iraq. Obama is pragmatic about this. If you want to see that in a philosophical light you might say that to him morality is group subjective. It's a given. It has to be accepted without moral judgment, because who are we? You might also say, that in his eyes, the West 'had it coming'. It's the highest form of demoralization you can think of.
Judicial Watch announced today that it obtained more than 100 pages of previously classified “Secret” documents from the Department of Defense (DOD)and the Department of State (...) The DOD documents also contain the first official documentation that the Obama administration knew that weapons were being shipped from the Port of Benghazi to rebel troops in Syria. An October 2012 report confirms: Weapons from the former Libya military stockpiles were shipped from the port of Benghazi, Libya to the Port of Banias and the Port of Borj Islam, Syria. The weapons shipped during late-August 2012 were (...) 500 Sniper rifles, 100 RPG launchers with 300 total rounds, and approximately 400 howitzers missiles [200 ea – 125mm and 200ea – 155 mm.] The heavily redacted document does not disclose who was shipping the weapons. (...) Another DIA report, written in August 2012 (the same time period the U.S. was monitoring weapons flows from Libya to Syria), said that the opposition in Syria was driven by al Qaeda and other extremist Muslim groups:
“the Salafist, the Muslim Brotherhood, and AQI are the major forces driving the insurgency in Syria.” The growing sectarian direction of the war was predicted to have dire consequences for Iraq, which included the “grave danger” of the rise of ISIS: The deterioration of the situation has dire consequences on the Iraqi situation and are as follows: This creates the ideal atmosphere for AQI [al Qaeda Iraq] to return to its old pockets in Mosul and Ramadi, and will provide a renewed momentum under the presumption of unifying the jihad among Sunni Iraq and Syria, and the rest of the Sunnis in the Arab world against what it considers one enemy, the dissenters. ISI could also declare an Islamic state through its union with other terrorist organizations in Iraq and Syria, which will create grave danger in regards to unifying Iraq and the protection of its territory. Some of the “dire consequences” are blacked out but the DIA presciently warned one such consequence would be the “renewing facilitation of terrorist elements from all over the Arab world entering into Iraqi Arena.”

Endgame in Syria: Iran Versus Turkey

The map of the Middle East could be redrawn. An analysis by Robin Wright in New York Times on Sept. 28. 2013. (Source)

It's very hard to discern a clear pattern from Meyssan's text. (Scroll down to log on Aug. 15). As we have commented at the time, the US got into this strategic mess, not because of intelligence failures (must read: Officials: Islamic State arose from US support for al-Qaeda in Iraq), but because Obama was in the Arab Spring modus. Egypt and Tunesia had fallen to the 'democratic, peaceful and secular' Muslim Brotherhood, NATO had bombed Libya into a failed state. It stood to reason that Assad in Syria would be next in line. Erdogan in Turkey was counting on that. This put the US in an awkward position when ISIS attacked northern Iraq. The US now had to fight the self same people they had been cultivating against Assad in Syria. It never worked, because it was a tremendous strategic miscalculation.

In all, the following 'camps' have emerged, but the situation is not very black and white or necessarily what is reported in the media: on the one hand we have Turkey fighting Assad and the Kurds, while supporting ISIS and other rebel groups, the Muslim Brotherhood a.k.a. the National Syrian Council that set up shop in Istanbul, and Obama's 'moderate' FSA. On Turkey's side, before they were sidelined, Hillary Clinton, and Messrs Petraeus and Allen, plus Senator John McCain. This is not sure, but in all probably the State Department is still holding that position, but this is murky to say the least. On the opposing side we have Russia, Assad and Iran de facto supported by Obama's team in the White House.

In the meantime the fog is lifting in Syria. What is emerging is an end game in which Turkey and Iran are vying for the position of the regional hegemon:
To see it in terms of the so-called “big picture”, it will be obvious that both Iran and Turkey are now emerging as competitors for influence over the Middle East. The Turks feel that the winds are changing in their favor. Erdogan’s calculation is that Turkey is better placed to be the broker and defender of the Sunni world at least until the conflict is settled somehow. Signing the nuclear deal was a promise of lucrative deal and reduced influence for Erdogan. He decided to try his luck at combining both objectives, the short term which is to go after the PKK and get a portion of Syria and a favor with the Arabs, and looking after the wounds in his relations with Tehran at a later stage once the choices cease to be as stark as they are now. In a way, getting a decisive say in Syria, hence consolidating Erdogan’s ties with the Sunni world will improve Turkey’s negotiating position with the Iranians. Erdogan is fast in rebuilding his ties with the Arabs. He knows that at one point he will be sitting with the other musketeer, Jawad Zarif, to discuss the region. If the Iranians rebuilt their bridges with the World, Erdogan is left only with rebuilding his with the region. But all will boil down to what will happen in Syria. (Source)

A New Middle East With Space For the Caliphate

The French, far Leftist author and Truther Thierry Meyssan (wiki) is a bit of a fruit cake, but the facts so far are checking out. In a posting on his blog Meyssan is recounting the recent history of the wars in Syria and Iraq in the light of a plan hatched by French former Foreign Minister Alain Juppé (wiki) and Turkish leader Erdogan. The 'conspiracy', he calls the Juppé-Wright Plan (Wrights's article in NYT) does shed some light on the Erdogan's wish for a buffer zone in Syria, that is basically a remnant of the original plan, which has come unstuck in the light of Obama's agreement with Iran. It also explains Turkey's connection to ISIS (referred to in the piece as the Islamic Emirat or Sunnistan), the Muslim Brotherhood that has a finger in each and every pie, and the relationship with the two Kurdish enclaves. It also explains why John Kerry is so delusional as to have remarked that there is no military solution to ISIS alone, but also called for a political and a diplomatic settlement. And why the Muslim Brotherhood is seen as a serious player! It also helps making sense why the 5+1 have struck a deal with the terror masters in Tehran. Every sense of morality has been lost. Terrorists were actually part of the Juppé-Wright Plan with rights to territory and a state of their own. It's shocking! The idea is now obsolete, but it shows what a mad house the postmodern world has become. What would there be to negotiate about with the Islamic State? How many apostates they would be able to kill? How many women to turn into slaves? Do they seriously believe these Jihadists would live in peace with their neighbors? These people are accomplices of evil and seriously corrupt! Here are a few links that may help clarify some of the events and actors Meyssan is mentioning. H/t @ArchieBunker31 (Source)

Anti Assad Group: Assad Used Gas Against IS

Anti Assad SOHR is accusing Assad of chlorine gas attacks against IS during their assault last Friday on the Deir Al Zor airstrip. We see IS more often portrayed as victims. There must be some psychological explanation for that, perhaps to do with deflecting responsibility. Al Jazeera:
The Syrian government has been accused of using chlorine gas against the Islamic State of the Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the latest allegations of chemical weapons use in the country's bitter conflict. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Saturday that ISIL fighters showed the effects of a chlorine gas attack as government forces repelled an offensive on a key air base in the country's east. The UK-based watchdog, which opposes the government, said some the groups fighters had breathing problems as they attempted to close in on the strategic Deir Ezzor military airport. Syrian State TV quoted an unnamed military official as saying troops repelled attempts by "terrorists" on several areas near the city of Deir Ezzor and killed "tens of them and destroyed their vehicles and weapons." The station later aired footage of Syrian troops standing near bodies of dead fighters it said were ISIL members who were killed. (Source)

The IS orcs are back on Mount Sinjar, apparently looking for more "devil worshippers" to behead, rape and enslave.
Islamic State militants advanced on Mount Sinjar on Monday, seizing two villages and blocking roads as besieged fighters from the minority Yazidi sect pleaded for U.S.-led airstrikes to save them. Yazidi volunteers who have been protecting the area for more than two months said they retreated from the villages north of the mountain after the extremists attacked in the early hours of Monday under the cover of bad weather. The Yazidis pulled back to a shrine in the foothills of the mountain but said the militants were closing in — their armored vehicles visible just a few miles away as night fell.

Report: Rove Kept Discovery of Iraq's WMD Secret

The “Bush lied/People died” chant flourished for years as the Left demonized George W. Bush for invading Iraq and finding “no” weapons of mass destruction. Except that our troops did discover vast numbers of chemical WMDs, but the administration kept the discovery -- and the injuries to our troops that handled them -- secret. The existence of the slur-busting weapons remained largely unknown to the public (but known to AT readers) until the New York Times published a front page story Wednesday, only a day after the New York Post revealed that ISIS fighters had taken over territory where these WMDs were stored. To be sure, these were old weapons, as my colleague Rick Moran is quick to point out, but they remain evidence of Saddam’s WMD programs and stockpiles. So what genius decided to keep these WMD stockpiles secret? Eli Lake of The Daily Beast reports (...) (Source)

Islamic State Is Training Fighter Pilots

Iraqi pilots who have joined Islamic State in Syria are training members of the group to fly in three captured fighter jets, a group monitoring the war said on Friday, saying it was the first time the militant group had taken to the air. The group, which has seized swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, has been flying the planes over the captured al-Jarrah military airport east of Aleppo (...) The group has regularly used weaponry captured from the Syrian and Iraqi armies and has overrun several military bases but, if the report is confirmed, this would be the first time it has been able to pilot warplanes. Report: IS Used Chemical Weapons

Israeli experts say newly surfaced photographs of deceased Kurdish fighters appear to reveal the Islamic State may have previously used chemical weapons, a Middle Eastern watchdog reported Sunday. (...) Images, which show the bodies of those who fought against the Islamic State’s July assault on a Syrian border town close to Kobani, appear to indicate the use of a chemical agent, according to unnamed Israeli experts who spoke with MERIA. Experts told the watchdog that the most likely suspect is mustard gas (...) Burns and white spots on the bodies of the dead indicated the use of chemicals, which led to death without any visible wounds or external bleeding (...) Top Coalition Brass In Talks How To Combat IS

It's an important day for the so-called 'coalition': Obama will hold talks with military chiefs from more than 20 countries on how to combat IS in Syria and Iraq. (Source) There's a built-in contradiction in this cooperation. The logic al aim should be the destruction of the Islamic State, but John Kerry has said this is not the goal; it is not even a war! It's a "protracted counter terrorist operation". Which is just as well, because about half of this coalition, on the basis of their religion, cannot even fundamentally object to the Caliphate! Stand off Kurds-IS at Kobane Continues

The Turks at Kobane are so obviously hostile, it beggars belief! The Kurdish crowd accused Turkish TV of airing inaccurate reports and began throwing stones at satellite car of a Turkish TV. The Turkish Army then started to teargas the area. The media were kicked out and the live stream went dead. Fog of war anyone? Hard to tell who's friend or foe. So far 10 former US marines confirmed joined the Kurdish forces at Kobane.

The War Against Islamic State May Be Kabuki Theater

Tomorrow should be D-Day for the Kurds at Kobane, near the Syrian and Turkish border. Live video and Twitter streams are available on the Dutch edition. (Source) Dutch Parliament voted for war against IS, but in Iraq only. There's no UN mandate for Syria. So it's just the US and Australia that understand the UN  and "international law" are secondary to national interests. It means in effect that this contribution is largely symbolic. Neverthess, six F16 fighter jets are on the way to Jordan. That destination was required rather than Turkey, because the Turkish parliament only later, in the course of the day gave the nod to enter the fray. Only the West believes Turkey will get seriously involved. Most likely the action is cover just to fight Assad, says the Turkish parliamentarian, Ertuğrul Kürkçü. We will have to see if the Turks (or the US) will come out tomorrow at Kobane in aid of the Kurds, but no one should be surprised if the battle of Kobane ends in a bloodbath. This so called war has all the markings of Kabuki theater.

Obama's 'Moderate Syrian Rebels' Have Muslim Brotherhood Roots

Some news now about the various groups and factions involved in the fighting, among others Obama's 'moderate Syrian rebels' to whom we can finally put a name. But first the relation between Islamic State and Al Qaeda related Nusra. The latter has in fact embedded a special force from Osama's inner circle, which the American intelligence services have dubbed Khorasan, but who refer to themselves as the Wolf Unit. More in our reporting yesterday when reporters of Dubai based Al Aan TV went through the debris after the initial airstrikes. (Source) Some tweets have been picked up which make clear that any ideological differences between Al Qaeda and Islamic State are in fact negligible.
Most illusive of all fighters in the theater are Obama's famous moderate Syrian rebels: Harakat Hazm. From the Wiki: "The previous incarnation of the group, called Harakat Zaman Mohamed, The movement of the time of Muhammad, was supported by the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood". (Source) Now considering the ideological proximity, how eager would Harakat Hazm be to fight Islamic State? This is of course a pipe dream! No surprise the arms ended up with IS. We had better arm the Kurds. Iraq is not going to survive this war as a unitary state in any case!

Obama Taking Flak For Blaming Intel For Collapse of Iraq

ISIS has reportedly advanced to the outskirts of Baghdad, and the Department of Defense is acknowledging that the terror group could be within five miles of the Iraqi capital. Vicar of Baghdad Canon Andrew White yesterday posted an SOS on Facebook, saying, “The Islamic State are on the verge of entering Baghdad. All the military airstrikes are doing nothing. If we ever needed your prayer, it is now.”

President Barack Obama has taken a lot of flak since his Sunday night “60 Minutes” interview, in which he blamed the intelligence community for his failure to tackle the threat posed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. And that is right and proper.
Pentagon Official: The President Is Lying To America — About Us, And About ISIS by Joseph Miller (the pen name for a ranking Department of Defense official with a background in U.S. special operations and combat experience in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has worked in strategic planning).
Because not only was his excuse of blaming us a lie, but when questioned on his lie, White House press secretary Josh Earnest doubled down with a whole new lie — both of which are easily, publicly proven false. On Sunday, Obama said the intelligence community had underestimated the rise of ISIS, saying in an interview with CBS, “Our head of the intelligence community, Jim Clapper, has acknowledged that, I think, they underestimated what had been taking place in Syria.” But we know that isn’t true, as nearly a dozen administration officials have testified to the threat posed by ISIS publicly over the last year. The fact that the president chose to use the word “they” instead of “we” immediately drew condemnation from friend and foe alike, who saw it as the president’s attempt to pass the buck. (...) Attack on IS Doesn't Require Permission From the UN

The front has moved to the UN General Assembly in New York today. We are reminded how President Bush was needlessly dragged to the UN by his ally Tony Blair in order to make the case for the invasion of Iraq. One corruption leads to the next. If you have to lie in order to achieve justice, something is seriously wrong with the system. And so there is. International law does not exist. Law implies a jurisdiction, a state or whatever entity, law enforcement and ultimately, a government. There is no international state or a government, let alone a democratic system. What does exist however is Natural Law.  And Natural Law leads to universal morality which states that man has an inherent right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This means that violators have no right to rule over man. Tyrannies have no rights under Natural Law. Saddam  had no right to rule over the Iraqi people, just like Assad has no right to rule over the Syrians, not to mention a horde of marauding barbarians! The sudden appearance on the scene last week of the terror group Khorasan (source) is very meaningful. Khorasan is the core of Al Qaeda, some half a dozen inner core of Bin Laden's inner circle that picked up its bags and moved from Pakistan to Syria. They are probably embedded in Nusra (Al Qaeda in Syria). The Obama administration has known about them for two years. Yet only last week they have made its existence known. This is no coincidence by any means, but a ploy to get legal cover for Obama's war: if there's an imminent threat of Khorasan against the West, according to the UN Charter this constitutes justification for an attack. An attack under the altruist Just War Theory and "Responsibility2Protect" (moral obligation to protect minorities) is complicated, as that would require the blessings or the Russians and the Chinese. Another interesting aspect here is that Iran, Hezbollah and the Iraqi Shia have ruled out an alliance with the Great Satan. Islamic State however is in actual fact the vanguard of the Sunni army. This could become complicated. Tweets of the Day:

Obama's War Against the Islamic State Has Begun

In one day of airstrikes, a total of 120 Jihadists allegedly perished. May they rot in hell. Part of the targets is also Khorasan, a group whose existence was unknown till last week! Obama's plan is to destroy IS without American boots on the ground and by training and arming the illusive "moderate Syrian rebels" estimated to amount to 5,000 troops by the year's end. Here's what happened today.

"Flames of War", Islamic State Open Threat To USA

To date psyops and propaganda have been more important than actual war fare against the Islamic State. Which suits Obama fine, since he doesn't want to define these kinetic movements as war anyway. Sustained counter-terrorism  operation suits the Obama paradigm just fine.

Sept. 17, 2014: The Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS and ISIL) has produced a new flashy propaganda clip intended to influence American public opinion against U.S. military action against the jihadist entity.

The Obama administration is conducting this incoherent non-war under a total mis identification. This counter terrorism operation has "nothing to do with Islam" (although the Caliph holds a PhD in Islamic studies); because in Obama's postmodern logic "no religion condones terrorism".  The boots on the ground to fill the vacuum aren't American, but belong to non existent 'moderate' Muslims (define!) that will amount to 5,000 men by the year's end. But on the side of 'the coalition of the reluctant' Obama's doctrine is also failing. Here's why Islamic countries can't afford to go wholeheartedly against the will of  their populations, and why the epithet Islamic needs to be separated  from Islamic State.

Nusra Fighters Attacking Kurds, Rival Terrorists

Our allies, the Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria of Al Nusra have reportedly killed a top commander from the Free Syrian Army in the latest display of deadly rivalry between opposition groups. The rebels are increasingly fighting each other for control in a number of places - with al-Qaeda-affiliated radicals trying to create an Islamist state within Syria. As part of that plan, the militants are accused of stepping up lethal assaults on Kurds in the north-east to seize their land.

Also Kurds are increasingly bearing the brunt of Al Nusra atrocities. Nusra's aim is to establish a Khalifate and a brand of Islamist rule like the Taliban's in Afghanistan. These are the allies that men like Senator John McCain want to arm in your name! Aren't you proud?

Ranks of Syrian Opposition Swelling After Jail Breaks

Russia: "Jihadists Hold 200 Kurdish Civilians Hostage in N.Syria"

Al Qaeda linked extremists have taken hostage about 200 Kurdish civilians, including women and children, using them as live shields in north-eastern Syria, Russia’s Foreign Ministry has stated. Western powers supporting organizations like al-Qaeda-linked Jahbat al-Nusra are to be blamed for the situation in northern Syria. The United States, Saudi Arabia, and Britain are actively supporting al-Qaeda-linked organizations that are ransacking and murdering women and children. “All we are hearing from London and Washington are talks about a no-fly zone and arming the very people who are killing women and children there. And from Turkey, certainly the Turkish right wing has brought ideas of invading Syria from the north to kill more Kurdish people.” says RT's reporter Rattansi.

Civilians remain hostage after Syrian Kurds clashed with Al-Qaeda linked militants in the north-eastern Syrian towns of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, along the Syrian-Turkish border over the weekend. In these areas, there has long been confrontation between the troops of the international extremists affiliated with al-Qaeda and local Kurdish militias who stood up to protect their homes from attacks by radical Islamists. Syrian Kurd fighters captured a rebel leader, or emir, identified as Abu Musab. In response, Al-Qaeda extremists abducted 500 civilians, including woman and children. “They started to kill innocent people by cutting off their heads,” the statement read. “Kurds had to free Abu Musab in exchange for an agreement to release hostages.” Despite the Kurdish fighters agreed to release Abu Musab in exchange for people, about 200 people are still in the hands of extremists. The commander was freed as agreed. The Kurdish gunmen have been fighting to expel al-Qaeda militants from the northeastern province of Hassakeh over the past week, with the battle significantly intensifying over the weekend. Top Military Says US Considering Force in Syria

The Obama administration is deliberating whether to use military power in Syria (...) Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, said during congressional testimony that he has provided President Barack Obama with options for the use of force in Syria. Speaking about what he termed "kinetic strikes," Dempsey added that the "issue is under deliberation inside of our agencies of government." But he declined to provide further details, as members of the Senate Armed Services Committee pressed him for greater clarity on the strategy for ending the war and removing Syrian President Bashar Assad from power. "The decision on whether to use force is the decision of our elected officials," Dempsey said. "It would be inappropriate for me to try to influence the decision with me rendering an opinion in public with what type of force we should use."  (Source)

Foreigners Joining Syria’s Rebels in Surprising Numbers

As many as 6,000 foreign fighters from nearly 50 nations have now joined the brutal 2½-year civil war to unseat President Bashar Assad of Syria. The vast majority are veterans from the the Arab Springs of Libya, Tunisia and Egypt. Islamist volunteers from Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey and a few former Soviet republics bolster their ranks. And then there are the Aussies. Surprising estimates suggest that Australians now make up the largest contingent from any developed nation in the Syrian rebel forces. There are around 120 French fighters in Syria, about 100 Britons and a handful of Americans — but there are at least 200 Australians, according to a public statement made by David Irvine, director general of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO).

The total may appear small, but it is growing rapidly, having doubled since the end of last year — and when looked at as a proportion of the Muslim population of Australia, the figure is startling. (...) In February, Norwegian terrorism expert Thomas Hegghammer released a paper showing that 1 in 9 Westerners who fight in foreign jihadist insurgencies ends up becoming involved in terrorist plots back home. With evidence that more than 100 Australian rebels in Syria are billeted with Jabhat al-Nusra, an al-Qaeda-linked militia, it isn’t surprising that Canberra is becoming alarmed. Russia Today: "Israeli Strike on Syria Launched from Turkey"

Putin's mouthpiece RT is speculating that the Israeli air strike on July 5 on the Syrian port of Latakia was carried out from Turkish soil. Turkey of course is vehemently denying. Looks like someone is stirring the hornests' nest. (Source)

The Russian-made weapon has been a particular worry for the Pentagon because it expanded Syria’s ability to threaten Western ships that could be used to transport supplies to the Syrian opposition, enforce a shipping embargo or support a possible no-flight zone. The missile also represented a threat to Israel’s naval forces and raised concerns that it might be provided to Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia that has joined the war on the side of the Syrian government. ISRAEL LAUNCHED 4TH ATTACK ON SYRIA FM SUBMARINE

Israeli submarines carried out the attack on an arms depot in the Syrian port city of Latakia on July 5, according to a report published in the British Sunday Times. US media previously claimed the offensive was carried out by the Israel Air Force. The Times cited Middle East intelligence sources as stating that the Israeli Dolphin-class submarines targeted a contingent of 50 Russian-made Yakhont P-800 anti-ship missiles that had reportedly arrived earlier this year to support Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime. The alleged Israeli naval strike was reportedly closely coordinated with the US. (Source)

Hundreds of Pakistani Taliban Join Nusra in Syria

A Pakistani branch of the Taliban, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known for its affiliation with the al Nusra front, a recognized branch of al-Qaeda, has sent hundreds of men to Syria to fight alongside rebels in the battle to topple President Assad. The militant organization has reportedly set up camps, aiming to foster ties with al-Qaeda’s central leadership. Taliban commanders told Reuters on Sunday that they decided to join the cause in Syria in order to fight alongside their “Mujahedeen friends.” “We have established our own camps in Syria. Some of our people go and then return after spending some time fighting there,” a Pakistani Taliban commander said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The majority of Pakistani Taliban groups work under the banner of the TTP. They operate in Pakistan's insurgency-plagued areas along the Afghan border, seeking to topple Pakistan’s government and install its own branch of Islam. (Source)

Location and Satellite Image of Syria’s SCUD Brigade Bunker Complex

The Syrian Army has a single brigade of Russian-made SCUD ballistic missiles, the 155th Missile Brigade, which is based in a heavily guarded facility 20 miles northeast of Damascus called the Al Qutayfah Tactical SSM Storage and Training Facility (33-42-15N 36-32-00E), according to newly declassified imagery intelligence reports obtained by your truly. From the standpoint of the Free Syrian Army rebels, it is virtually impossible to get at this facility from the outside because Al Qutayfah is also the headquarters of the entire Syrian 3rd Armored Division, as well as a number of other Syrian Army combat, combat support and logistics units. Thanks to my friend Ed M., here is the latest Google Maps satellite imagery of the nine underground bunker complexes carved into the side of a hill which are used to store Syria’s entire arsenal of mobile SCUD missile launchers and their support equipment. Russia, China and Iran Support Assad with $4bn/Year

“It’s not that bad to have the Russians, the Chinese and Iranians behind you, Syria’s deputy prime minister Qadri Jamil told the Financial Times Monday. They are helping us “politically, militarily and also economically,” he said.

This amounts to an injection from the three countries of $6 bn per annum to the Syrian war chest, of which, according to Jamil, Tehran contributes $4 billion. He also revealed that ships “under the Russian flag” deliver oil and related products to Syria. “We are waiting for someone to attack them.” (Source)

Kerry Channels Baghdad Bob.. "There are no Saudi or Qatari Fighters in Syria"

"We do not believe it is appropriate for the Assad regime to have invited the Iranians and Hezbollah to cross international lines and to have their fighters on the ground.. There are no United States fighters. There are no Saudi fighters. There are no Qatari fighters on the ground", Kerry said.

Kerry is obviously channeling Baghdad Bob here. And you can see why since they do have some things in common. There are plenty of Saudi fighters on the ground. They are being armed by the Saudi and Qatari governments. But they just aren’t officially part of the Saudi military. What exactly does Kerry expect? Both sides have fighters on the ground. Obama Inc. has just chosen to back the Sunni terrorists over the Shiite terrorists. But let’s not pretend that represents some kind of moral high ground. (Source)

No Arab Spring, But the 2nd Islamic World War

The 'civil war' in Syria is the template for a new wave of violence that may last for years. The Muslim world is preparing for a massive war of Sunnis against Shiites and Christians. The Kurds, Druze and Bahais in Iran should also prepare for wars of extermination or at least expulsion. (Source)

    "IRAQI SHIITE FIGHTERS JOIN ASSAD"

Iraqi Shiite Muslims are fighting in Syria alongside troops of President Bashar al-Assad, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said in remarks published on Friday, while insisting this was not the policy of the Shiite-led Baghdad government. "I do not deny that Iraqi Shiite fighters are participating in combat in Syria, just as Sunnis from the Gulf are doing in that country," he said in remarks published by pan-Arab daily Al-Hayat. (...) While "Hezbollah fighters are engaged in combat in Syria, there are also Sunni fatwas, such as the one by Qaradawi, calling for jihad in Syria," Zebari said. (Source)

Erdogan Closes Arms Corridor to Syrian Rebels

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan phoned President Barack Obama in Berlin Wednesday, June 19, to report his sudden decision to shut down the Turkish corridor for the transfer of US and NATO arms to the Syrian rebels. (...) Erdogan’s decision will leave the Syrian rebels fighting in Aleppo virtually high and dry. (...) The Turkish prime minister told Obama he is afraid of Russian retribution if he continues to let US and NATO weapons through to the Syrian rebels. (...)

The arms the rebels received from US, NATO and European sources were purchased on international markets – not only because they were relatively cheap but because they were mostly of Russian manufacture. The rebels are thus equipped with Russian weapons for fighting the Russian arms used by the Syria army. This made Moscow angrier than ever.

Until now, the Erdogan government was fully supportive of the Syrian opposition, permitting them to establish vital command centers and rear bases on Turkish soil and send supplies across the border to fighting units. He has now pulled the rug out from under their cause and given Assad a major leg-up.

This about-turn is a strategic earthquake – not just in terms of the Syrian war but also for the United States and, as time goes by, for Israel too. Ten years ago, Erdogan pulled the same maneuver when he denied US troops passage through Turkey to Iraq for opening a second front against Saddam Hussein. President Obama reacted by topping up the US deployment in Jordan (...) (Source)

What's Up with Russia Pulling Out of Syria?

Moscow announced Wednesday June 26, that the evacuation which had begun Friday of all military and diplomatic personnel from Syria was now complete, including the Russian naval base at Tartus. “Russia decided to withdraw its personnel because of the risks from the conflict in Syria, as well as the fear of an incident involving the Russian military that could have larger consequences,” said a defense ministry official in Moscow. He stressed that a 16-ship naval task force in the eastern Mediterranean remains on post and arms shipments, including anti-air weapons, would continue to the Syrian government in keeping with former contracts.

In another sign of an impending escalation in Syria, the Israeli Golan brigade staged Wednesday an unannounced war maneuver on the Golan, attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and top army chiefs.

In London, Prime Minister David Cameron called the government’s National Security Council into session in Downing Street on Syria. Opposition leader Ed Milliband was invited to attend the meeting, a custom observed only when issues of the highest security importance are discussed. (...)

Iran, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon may be dragged in at any moment – if they have not already, like Lebanon. A small mistake by one of the Syrian warring parties in Syria could, for example, touch off Israeli retaliation and a wholesale spillover of violence. (...) (Source)

Given the Assad government’s gains, the Russian decision to pull out of Tartus might represent a calculation about potential intervention, either from the United States over the regime’s alleged chemical weapons use or from Israel, which has said that it will strike if advanced surface-to-air missiles are delivered to the Syrian regime, according to Andrew Tabler, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute. “It would explain something that otherwise seems counterintuitive,” Tabler said. “If the regime is doing well, you don’t close your base.” (...)

State Department spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki said in an e-mail that the United States would not speculate on the reasons for the Russian move but added, “As we have said many times before, the situation on the ground has grown worse and more dangerous with the influx of foreign fighters from Iran and [Hezbollah].” (Source)

Russia Handing Obama List of Al Qaeda He's Arming

Russia delivered to the Obama administration a list of the names of Syrian rebels who are members of Al Qaeda groups and who are receiving arms shipments coordinated by the U.S. The list demonstrates how the U.S. is failing in its due diligence of vetting the rebels being supported by the West for ties to Al Qaeda and other jihad groups. The information comes amid scores of news media reports that the Obama administration is aiding the rebels, including by coordinating Arab arms shipments. The arming of Syrian rebels is considered highly controversial. A major issue is the inclusion of jihadists, including al-Qaida, among the ranks of the Free Syrian Army and other Syrian opposition groups. (Source)

Moscow Adding 2 More Warships to the Escalating Conflict

Just one day after the G8 Summit ended in the failure of Western leaders to overcome Russian resistance to a resolution mandating Bashar Assad’s ouster, Moscow announced the dispatch to Syria of two warships carrying 600 Russian marines "to protect the Russian citizens there." An air force umbrella would be provided the Russian expeditionary force if needed. The force Putin’s reply to the delivery of Western heavy arms to Syrian rebels. Putin was giving the West due warning that if they persisted in arming the rebels any further, a Russian troop landing in Syria would take place in the guise of an operation to evacuate endangered Russian nationals.

Some 20,000 Russians live in Syria. In former stages of the conflict, they were given the locations of assembly points should Moscow decide to lift them out of the war-torn country. The evacuation of Russian citizens would in itself dramatically denote the expansion of the Syrian conflict. The Russian Interfax news agency identified the warships heading for Syrian shores as the Nikolai Filchenkov Large Landing Ship and the Vice Admiral Kulakov, a Udaloy 1 class destroyer, each carrying 300 marines. Aboard the former are also 20 tanks and 15 armored troop carriers or military trucks, while the Kulakov is designed mainly for anti-submarine warfare. Read on..

US Marine Force In Jordan For "Military Exercise"

A large American military force disembarked Tuesday, June 4, at the southern Jordanian port of Aqaba - ready for deployment on the kingdom’s Syrian border. The force made its way north along the Aqaba-Jerash-Ajilon mountain road bisecting Jordan from south to north, under heavy Jordanian military escort. Our sources disclose that this American force numbers 1,000 troops, the largest to land in Jordan since the Syrian civil war erupted in March 2012.

They are members of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Force carried aboard the USS Kearsage amphibious assault ship, which has been anchored off neighboring Israeli Eilat since mid-May. Upon landing, the marines took to the road in a convoy of armored vehicles including Hummers. Washington and Amman have imposed a blackout on their arrival. The Pentagon has only let it be known that the annual joint US-Jordanian “Eager Lion 2013” military exercise is due to begin later in June and last two months, with the participation of US F-16 fighter jets and Patriot missile defense systems. IRAN SENDING 4,000 REP. GUARDS TO REINFORCE ASSAD

Washington’s decision to arm Syria’s Sunni Muslim rebels has plunged America into the great Sunni-Shia conflict of the Islamic Middle East, entering a struggle that now dwarfs the Arab revolutions which overthrew dictatorships across the region. For the first time, all of America’s ‘friends’ in the region are Sunni Muslims and all of its enemies are Shiites. Breaking all President Barack Obama’s rules of disengagement, the US is now fully engaged on the side of armed groups which include the most extreme Sunni Islamist movements in the Middle East.

The Independent on Sunday has learned that a military decision has been taken in Iran – even before last week’s presidential election – to send a first contingent of 4,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards to Syria to support President Bashar al-Assad’s forces against the largely Sunni rebellion that has cost almost 100,000 lives in just over two years. Iran is now fully committed to preserving Assad’s regime, according to pro-Iranian sources which have been deeply involved in the Islamic Republic’s security, even to the extent of proposing to open up a new ‘Syrian’ front on the Golan Heights against Israel. Obama Confirms Arming Jihadist Rebels

Obama has authorized sending weapons to Syrian rebels for the first time, U.S. officials said Thursday, after the White House disclosed that the US has conclusive evidence Assad’s government used chemical weapons against opposition forces trying to overthrow him. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., one of the strongest proponents of US military action in Syria, said he was told Thursday that Obama had decided to "provide arms to the rebels", a decision confirmed by three US officials.

The officials cautioned that no decisions had been made on the specific type of weaponry or when it would reach the Syrian rebels, who are under increasing assault from Assad’s forces. The White House signaled that Obama did plan to step up US involvement in the Syrian crisis in response to the chemical weapons disclosure.‘‘This is going to be different in both scope and scale in terms of what we are providing,’’ said Ben Rhodes, Obama’s deputy national security adviser. Report on Assad's Use of Chemical Weapons has been Sent to Russia

The U.S. and European allies have concluded that Syria has used chemical weapons against rebels "multiple times," and the White House said it would provide additional assistance to Syrian opposition that "includes military support." In a conference call Thursday afternoon, White House Deputy National Security Adviser for Communications Ben Rhodes said that the "intelligence community estimates that 100 to 150 people have died from detected chemical weapons attacks in Syria to date." Obama has said that the use of chemical weapons in Syria's ongoing conflict would be a "game-changer," and that it serves as a "red line." Thursday, Rhodes said it had. Obama "has said that the use of chemical weapons would change his calculus, and it has," Rhodes said. For now, though, the White House was unspecific about the next steps it would take. Source

    MAJOR GAME CHANGER

US intelligence agencies have concluded that Assad used chemical weapons on a small scale against rebel fighters in Syria's civil war, the White House said on Thursday. The assessment, which followed Obama's demand for conclusive proof after US intelligence analysts determined earlier this year that chemical weapons had likely been used, could put pressure on Washington to respond aggressively to the crossing of what Obama himself had called a "red line". Source

Update: US to Deploy Patriot Missiles, F-16 Jets to Jordan

The US will deploy Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and F-16 fighter jets to Syria’s neighbor Jordan this month, Jordan said on Tuesday, drawing swift condemnation from Moscow which accused the West of sending weapons to fuel Syria’s civil war. Jordan said the planes and missiles will be sent as part of an annual exercise to begin in the last week of June. Military sources said the exercises would involve armies from at least 18 countries with more than 15,000 troops. “These annual exercises will increase the preparedness of the Jordanian army. This year we are in need of more advanced weapons,” Jordan’s Minister of Information Mohammad al-Momani told Reuters. There was no official statement suggesting the Patriots or the fighters would be withdrawn when the exercises are over. Jordan is a U.S. ally in the region and one of the Arab countries that backs the opposition to Syrian President Bashar Assad, who is fighting insurgents in a two-year-old civil war that has killed 80,000 people. The deployment of Patriot missiles is particularly controversial for Russia, Assad’s main global ally. Read on..

    GOVERNMENT FORCES RETAKE DAMASCUS

The battle for Damascus is over. DEBKAfile’s intelligence sources reported that the battle for the Syrian capital was all but over. Barring small pockets of resistance, Bashar Assad’s army had virtually regained control of the city in an epic victory. From those pockets, the rebels can’t do much more than fire sporadically. They can no longer launch raids, or pose threats to the city center, the airport or the big Syrian air base nearby. The Russian and Iranian transports constantly bringing replenishments for keeping the Syrian army fighting can again land at Damascus airport after months of rebel siege. The rebels fell back in Damascus after being outflanked in a pincer movement in Damascus’s eastern outskirts executed by the Syrian army’s 4th and 3rd Divisions and a “Fuji” commando unit . THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF RUSSIA AND IRAN
(...) Iranian advisors have been crucial, because they are experienced in irregular warfare and show Syrian Army commanders how to best deal with the rebels (by using deception and psychological warfare to damage rebel morale and confuse rebel leaders.) This is making a difference. (...)

Russia is taking a lot of heat for continuing to deliver weapons that Syria ordered before the rebellion began two years ago. These include anti-ship missiles (that Israel fears would end up in Lebanon where Hezbollah would use them against Israeli ships or off-shore natural gas wells) and S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems (similar to the U.S. Patriot).

The S-300s are also a threat to Israel, which said it will continue its air raids in Syria (to stop new weapons from getting to Lebanon and Hezbollah). If the S-300 did show up in Syria (or Lebanon) Israel would probably attack it right away, before these systems could become operational. Russia began deliveries of their Yakhont anti-ship missiles two years ago, but only a few dozen have arrived so far. Costing several million dollars each, the missiles have a range of 300 kilometers and are very hard to stop. Iran is paying for them, as well as the S-300 systems. (...)

    THE GAS WAR
Here's the war from the perspective of interests, which is ultimately what foreign policy is about!

The tiny gas-rich state of Qatar has spent as much as $3bn over the past two years supporting the rebellion in Syria, far exceeding any other government, but is now being nudged aside by Saudi Arabia as the prime source of arms to rebels. The cost of Qatar’s intervention, its latest push to back an Arab revolt, amounts to a fraction of its international investment portfolio. But its financial support for the revolution that has turned into a vicious civil war dramatically overshadows western backing for the opposition.

ZeroHedge: Mystery Sponsor Of Weapons And Money To Syrian Mercenary "Rebels" Revealed

Russia has sent a dozen or more warships to patrol waters near its naval base in Syria, a buildup that U.S. and European officials see as a newly aggressive stance meant partly to warn the West and Israel not to intervene in Syria's bloody civil war. U.S. officials said Thursday that another round of Israeli airstrikes could target a new transfer of advanced missiles, anti-ship weapons known as Yakhont missiles, in the near future. Israeli and Western intelligence services believe the missiles, which have been sold by Russia to Syria in recent years, could be transferred to the militant Hezbollah group within days. Russia has strongly protested previous Israeli strikes in Syria. Yakhont missiles are an offensive system.

(...) The US should be concerned about the danger as well – but instead, the Obama administration is seeking reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood, backing it in Syria (see here as well), and proposing to fund and treat with the terrorist group Hamas. The Russians are justified in being worried that the US shows little discrimination in our choice of clients and protégés in the region. Whether the reason is ideological sympathy or ideological naïveté, the US administration’s affinity for the most radical, repressive, Islamo-statist elements in the Islamic world cannot be a basis for strategically responsible uses of power.

The Obama administration showed clearly during the Libya operation that it was committed to not using US power to achieve decisive political outcomes. Yet US power is the element most badly needed in the situation in Syria. The feat needed in Syria is one to which only America, up to now, has been suited: acknowledging the regional implications of any Syrian outcome; bringing Russia into a group effort; and yet also bringing an end to the Assad regime on terms favorable for the Syrian people, and acceptable to the Arab world, the West, and Russia.

Perhaps, in the weeks ahead, another nation will find a way to fill that role. France may shift her focus: from dismissing Russia and setting up a separate coalition, to trying to engage Russia. Turkey may be able to broker a group effort in which Russia gets a role.

Russian intransigence is marginally more likely to win out; I don’t think France and the UK are really stupid enough to provoke an armed standoff with Russia, even if the US is. But we are in uncharted territory, and that assessment may be wrong. (...) >>>

They’ve had military advisors inside the country assisting the regime for months and they’re doing their level best to meet Assad’s exploding demand for new weapons. But actually sending Russian special forces to Tartus, presumably to lend a hand in case Syrian troops need help with with their, er, “counterterror” operations, is a new one on me. Message to NATO and any other nascent western/Arab coalition: The price of intervention will be higher than you estimated. Time to start paying closer attention to Syria. (...) >>>
